SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE

Services

SaaS solutions may be the way to go for many companies. We'll help you determine if it's right for you.

Software as a Service (SaaS) is the buzzword for offloading the headaches of hosting applications to somebody else. Like our competitors, we've recognized the value that it presents to our customers. However, there are certain risks involved which we've elected to minimize (if not entirely eliminate), so we feel that it's just as important to consider both sides. Our goal is to work with our customers to identify the approach that's best for them.

The case for delivering any web-based application as a service is compelling.
Factor On-Premise Installation Software as a Service
Deployment Longer lead times required to establish the infrastructure, build redundancy, test and support Implementation typically takes a fraction of the time of an on-premise installation
Value Higher initial costs for hardware, software and internal support staff. Generally much lower costs. This may be offset somewhat by the need for redundancy, higher levels of security and operational support
Scalability The limiting factor here is really the application itself. We've designed and tested LaserComp to scale to the largest enterprise deployment, so it's really a matter of how you plan to deliver the application. Since SaaS is operates on a subscription basis, scalabity is generally not an issue for the customer unless the vendor can't deliver on their promise.
Reliability Aside from the stability of the application itself, reliability is a factor of the on-site support staff. Reliability will generally be quite high since we (the vendor) control the environment variables and have the most familiarity with the application.
Flexibility Upgrades can often be disruptive and time-consuming A significant advantage is the ease with which upgrades can be applied in a centralized, controllable manner.
Security The security of any application depends on too many factors to list, including internal control policies and the built-in security of the application. In general, a company with very strong security policies may be inclined to maintain sensitive applications in-house, regardless of any other advantage Security must be of the highest caliber, from the operational management and infrastructure to constant vigilance against new threats. Taking the strongest precautions necessary to minimize the risk of data exposure has to take precedent over any other factor, including cost.

Conclusion

Electing to host your own application or choosing an SaaS option should not be driven by any single factor. We will help you make the right decision for you by developing alternative scenarios based on your organizational needs and imperatives.
